On the 2nd of February, 2016, the As-Law students went on an excursion to the Combined Magistrate and High court Ikeja, Lagos. This allowed the students develop an insight into the legal system, as various cases were heard and debated. Structures such as adjournment, trial, and judgement were noticed as the judge applied her judicial knowledge. Other legal personnel were seen which improved our practical insight such as the barristers and solicitors. We also got to understand the recording processes applied in cases. The college, on the 4th of March 2016, joined the rest of the world to mark World Book Day in a programme themed: HOLD A BOOK, READ A BOOK. Incidentally and symbolically, as part of the programme for the day, in an effort to sensitise the college community to the beauty and value of reading, everybody had to carry a favourite book. When the programme finally commenced at 2:30pm the expansive Dining Hall had been decorated to create a book-friendly ambiance, with some invited publishers displaying books for everyone to appreciate and buy. The Special Guest / speaker, Okechukwu Ofili, who is an alumnus of the college, set the ball rolling by talking about how he not only transformed from being a below-average student to being the renowned author he is today. He also read from his bestseller, How Stupidity Saved My Life. Members of staff and students equally had the opportunity to read from their favourite literary works. The annual Oxbridge International Universities Fair was held on the 29th of February, 2016. This event has always created a forum where top universities from all over the world and other educational institutions gather to meet interested applicants and enlighten them about educational opportunities. Apart from schools that were invited to take advantage of this unique opportunity, our students and parents were at home to be rightly guided educationally. Foreign universities such as University of Bradford, University of Leeds, Leeds Becket University, Liverpool John Moores, Manchester Metropolitan University, University of Salford, University of Sheffield, and Sheffield Hallam University were represented by their Representatives. We also had local universities represented by Elizade University. Other educational institutions in attendance were the NCUK, Insight Education, EU Business University, Shorelight Education, DIFC and our very own Oxbridge Academy. The icing on the cake was a session held by our old students, who spoke and advised the students on pursuing foreign university education. Huge thanks to everyone who took part. On the 25th of February 2016, AS and A2 Art students had the privilege of visiting the Yaba College of Technology. When we arrived, we were responded to swiftly by some lecturers at the institution. We went through ceramic rooms and were spoken to in detail of the development stages taken and learnt about different moulding materials. The tour guide covered each level of the entire building; the painting section, texting, ceramics, graphics and even the fashion design room. The tour guides were friendly and often switched to give us more information about each specific mode of Art. After taking pictures in various rooms we concluded the trip by looking at some beautiful statues, sculptures and architectural pieces that were placed around and beside the main building. It was a very successful trip as we were exposed to many other art techniques that we were not familiar with. The college drama team, under the leadership of the Drama teacher Mr. Sola Balogun, put on another sterling performance on the 25th of February, 2016. With weeks of rehearsals and other preparations to make the event a success, no one was left in doubt about what to expect when the play, Nengi’s Dilemma was finally staged. The play was an interesting story of Charles and his dalliances with various ladies that he managed to finally put in the family way. Nemesis finally caught up with him as he paid dearly for an immoral life. It was surely a lesson for everybody, both ladies and boys on the need to maintain healthy relationships. The event, which apart from the main drama, was also laced with dances and solo song performance was graced by quite a lot of parents and students from a neighbouring Glenville School....
