Oxbridge SRC attend L.E.A.P Workshop

The L.E.A.P leadership innovative workshop, which took place at the Lagos City Hall, Lagos Island, was held on Thursday, the 13th of November, 2014. The program was an initiative of the NGO L.E.A.P Africa, which seeks to develop young leaders and spearhead development projects amongst youths in the community. L.E.A.P is actually an acronym for Leadership, Effectiveness, Accountability and Professionalism.  The organization, which was founded by Mrs. Ndidi Nwuadi, indeed did a productive job on Thursday as they exposed the students present to various activities and information that triggered their inner-leader. The event started with a few notable quotes on leadership, two of which were really striking:  “Ingenuity finds progress.”  “Ingenuity fuels leadership.” A number of questions and answers followed in the subsequent sessions as well as fun activities. Students from various schools around Lagos participated in two distinct activities, which were really fascinating.  One of these was the “LEGO” game, which was conducted by one Mr. Harmony……..   The game was based on Robotics.  It challenged the students’ intellectual and rapid thinking abilities as they were all made to mix with different schools and come up with basic robots in 10 minutes.  The game really fostered teamwork, creativity and innovation in the students. Oxbridge’s own S.R.C President, Nello T. Edematie, along with his group, won the robot challenge. The other session was a chess session, which involved the students being tutored on how to play the game of chess and be masters at it.  The session proved to be an effective one as the students left as more perspicacious individuals. The highlight of the program was a drama presentation by a...

Election time at Oxbridge!

The arrival of campaign day for the SRC (Student Representative Council) was marked with an unmistakeable buzz of amicable excitement last Friday afternoon 24TH of October, 2014. With candidates ready to present their manifestos to the school (and a few nominated candidates disappointedly forfeiting the SRC elections at the last minute), the school hall was thick with anticipation. The AA (Accelerated A-level) students kicked off the presentation of manifestos with the friendly-faced Idara taking centre stage before Ahmed and Adaramola followed suit. Wonu Bonojo ended her manifesto in an epic fashion by squealing into the microphone in excitement. Next, Kanyisola Adetokunbo, Ayobami  Martins (who had nothing but praise for his former school – Grange School – as he told us how he wishes to make OTC as socially active as Grange) and Oliseh Ojo. The ever-confident, bubbly Kemi Aloko told AS Arts Students of how the fact that she “knows people who know people” will be the gateway to changes they wish to make. Nelo made a brief yet memorable speech, basically telling people to vote for him just because. IFY’s Rosemary was straight-to-the-point making a brief speech similar to Nelo’s. Yusuf  Yusuf attracted loud cheers from the students, even more so when he expressed detest at the fact that the intervention class students’ names will be displayed on the noticeboard. Kemi Akinsete and Ebun made quieter more brief speeches, with kemi displaying a briefly-worded Powerpoint slide. The highlights were certainly IFY student Cyril who attracted the loudest screams and chants from the students. While Gbotemi Kolawole promised faster wifi (which is certainly needed). The community services candidates presented...

Oxbridge creates awareness on World Polio Day

24th of October, 2014 was set aside as a day to mark World Polio Day. Rotary International, an NGO that has been at the forefront of eradicating polio worldwide, organized an inter-school debate among schools in Lagos state, to mark the event. Oxbridge College was represented by Raphael and Samir. OXPRESS CORRESPONDENT ROSEMARY COVERED THE EVENT… There is no doubt that the best way of getting the full grasp of a topic and passing it on to the world is through intellectual teenagers sharing their views and opinions. 24th of October 2014 was indeed a day of great enlightenment, as students from internationally accredited schools gathered to share their thoughts and opinions on the effect of poliomyelitis on the socio-economy of Nigeria in a debate. ST &T REGENCY SCHOOL, CAYLEY COLLEGE, CRESLAND COLLEGE AND OXBRIDGE TUTORIAL COLLEGE engaged in this fierce battle, giving everyone present a basic education of what polio actually is about. Polio, or poliomyelitis, is a highly contagious viral infection that can lead to paralysis, breathing problems, or even death. The term poliomyelitis is from the Greek poliós meaning “grey”, myelós referencing the spinal cord, and -itis meaning inflammation. Those who stood against the idea that Polio has an effect on Nigeria’s socio-economy did so with reasonable and contestable points. However Students from Oxbridge Tutorial College, who represented us in the persons of Raphael Chinwuko and Samir Buari, were of the opinion that it had no effect on the socio-economy of Nigeria. Their points were built on the ideology that in the year 2014, Nigeria has had only 6 cases of Polio, and these cases were reported in the northern part...
