They inspired us! Mr. Abraham’s experience at the NAIS conference

THEY INSPIRED US; THE STORIES OF LYN HEWARD, JOHN QUINONES, MAE JEMISON AND ERIC WHITECARE. It was normal for me to expect the usual seasoned conference speakers in the mould of educationists and motivational speakers in a kind of conference organized by NAIS (National Association of Independence Schools) in Orlando, Florida from February 26th – 28th of February 2014, but that was not to be. Instead, we had the rare privilege of having speakers whose only association with education would probably be, passing   through schools at one time in their lives. Though eclectically selected for the conference from diverse backgrounds, they have a lot of things in common. They did not seem to have any chance by virtue of their backgrounds of becoming somebody in life. Where there were no opportunities, they literally created them and lastly, these were no motivational speakers, so they had the advantage of speaking from their hearts, by plainly presenting their journeys through life, as a mirror for us all to see ourselves and make our own decisions. Lyn Heward is a consultant for Cirque du Soleil,a renowned circus company and International Gymnastics Federation. She showed us how to make creativity a part of everything we do. She took us on an exciting trip through video clips of Cirque du Soleil of pure exhibition of creativity and innovation. A fluent speaker, Lyn has the uncanny ability to take her spell-bound listeners through a mind blowing trip of possibilities and fantasies, relating all these to everyday living, which would benefit us in the areas of risk-taking, leadership, teamwork, product development etc. Personally, listening to...

AISEN @ OTC

The college opened its door to AISEN –Association of International School Educators of Nigeria on the 6th of March, 2014, in what would be the first time the college would host a meeting of the association. AISEN is an association of International Schools’ principals in Nigeria. It provides a forum through which members access training, advice, and practical assistance where required. The networking opportunities enable professional educators to share, help and support on both professional and personal matters. Incidentally Oxbridge is a member. The journey started from the college Reception, where the guests were  ushered in   by the members of  Oxbridge SRC and subsequently formally received by Mrs. Onasanya in a breakfast treat. The meeting cum general session took place in the expansive college dining hall. The President of the association, Mrs.Ekua Abudu conducted a brief introduction of all attending members .A break-out session of 4 committees followed, where different reports were presented. This continued till about 2pm. By 2:15pm, the event came to a close and not without the attendees being handed some goodies bags by the college Marketing Team. Kudos to the indefatigable Principal, Ms.Carol Scot for effectively   playing the good hostess and ensuring a well organized event! Ladun and Jackey representing Oxbridge...

Academic Review Day @ OTC

The college had its first Academic Review Day for the academic session 2013/2014 on the 15th of February 2014. This is a time usually set aside for parents and the teachers to meet and review their academic progress of our students. From the huge turnout of parents, it is evident that they are truly passionate about the educational wellbeing of their children. The programme started from the college Reception where the parents registered and were also served a questionnaire. Mr.Oye Ojo,was also in attendance to take enquiries. The parents later moved straight to the college expansive hall, where they had a session with the college principal, Ms. Carol Scott who acquainted  them with the general progress of the college as it pertains to the academic state of the students. Issues such as  Importance of Academic Review, Attendance and Punctuality of Students, Introduction of Key Skills Classes, Graduation Ball Date, Mock Examination, Progress on Intervention Classes, Feedback  and AP1 Forms, NCUK Fair, Bradford University Engineering Trip etc. were discussed. About  60 parents were in  attendance and they  had the ample opportunity to ask questions and raise various issues that pertain to the welfare of their children. By 11a.m, parents moved to the various classes allocated for different subjects, where they were able to interact one-on-one with their children’s teachers. Most students were around as well. It was truly a rewarding time for all stakeholders. We hope more parents would avail themselves this opportunity in our next Academic Review Day....
