NCUK fair at OTC

As part of its annual visit to partnering schools all over the world, the NCUK team  was in  the college on a 3 day visit from the 11th – 13th of  February, 2013. However one of the highlights of the visit was the NCUK College Fair held from 4:30-7pm in the expansive college hall on the 11th of February, 2013. Our correspondents, Faizah covered the event…

On Monday 11th 2013, Oxbridge Tutorial College hosted some guest from the Northern Consortium (NCUK) and eleven prestigious British universities representatives. These universities are

  • University of Huddersfield
  • University of Leeds
  • Leeds Metropolitan University
  • University of Liverpool
  • Liverpool John Moores University
  • Manchester Metropolitan University
  • University of Manchester
  • University of Salford
  • University of Sheffield
  • Sheffield Hallam University

The fair was primarily for the International Foundation Year (IFY) students as the universities representatives were from the universities which partner with the college  on the NCUK programme. Some of the A-level students also accompanied the IFY students to the fair and with some parents in attendance, they all got to meet the representatives of each of the schools, where the representatives educated both the parents and students about their schools, what it entails to get into the school and the schools’ location.

This lasted for two and half hours, after which there was an interview conducted by Oxpress with the NCUK representatives, namely Mr Alan White, Mrs Georgina Jones and Mr Dan Whalley.

During the course of the interview, the various representatives of the NCUK stressed the roles they play in getting students their preferred schools. Mr Alan White, Placement Director, helps students get into the university and he is very happy to do that. Mrs Georgina Jones, the Business Development Manager, also searches for new colleges, higher level qualifications and looks at the diploma and pre-masters. Mr Dan Whalley is a Regional Academic Manager, he is in charge of quality of teaching, and makes sure the students are happy.

During the interview, the NCUK representatives had the opportunity to express what they feel about Oxbridge Tutorial College, they said they loved the students Monday Assembly presentation entitled Uncertainty:The Exploration of Drug Abuse. They also like how the students behave; their politeness. They talked about how proud NCUK is to be associated with OTC, which has successfully delivered their international foundation year programme for seven years. Eleven prestigious British universities collaborate to provide educational programmes specially designed for international students. In 25 years, over 20,000 students have progressed from NCUK programmes to UK degrees courses.
