It was another opportunity for parents and the college to merge minds on the 15th of October 2016, when our Parents Forum themed, How to Raise Unique Children, was held. As an event that was parent focused, our parents had ample time to be taken through a progress report of various college activities and programmes all geared toward giving our students the top notch educational experience that we are known for. An alumnus of the college, Ikechukwu Ofili, was at hand to give a talk on parenting in the 21st century, aptly using his personal experience from being an average student to the peak of academic excellence. This talk and another, 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens, were not only cerebral, but also enlightening. It was again time to look back at how far we have come in the last year, as the college hosted the annual Oxbridge Retreat on the 28th of June, 2016. After the opening remark by the Managing Director of the college, Dr. (Mrs.) C. O. Ogunsanya, who introduced the objective of the retreat (entitled Professionalism and Ethics), the chairman of the board, Mr. Tope Togun, did a recap of the 2015 retreat, entitled Reflective Management. This proved moving and riveting, eliciting a positive response from the members of staff present. This was followed by a presentation by Mr. Oyewumi, who looked at the discourse from a Human Resources point of view. Mr. Cillers, the Principal of the Grace School, took the centre stage later and he explored the practical sides of ethics. Another member of the board, Dr. Oshadare came in with a framework towards forming an ethics policy in the college. The third and the last Open House for this academic year was held on the 4th of June, 2016 with a quite a large turnout of parents and students who wanted to get acquainted with the various world-class educational opportunities that the college has to offer. From the presentation delivered by the Managing Director of the college, Dr. (Mrs.) C. O. Ogunsanya and specially invited delegates of some of our international partners (Andrew Straughan from NCUK, Ray Halpin of DIFC and Joyce and Mark from Insight Education) to testimonials from an alumna, those in attendance had the unique opportunity of being presented with different university education opportunities. Opportunities not only from Europe and North-Africa, but also from top universities in Nigeria and Ghana. The guests were also taken round the college to see our facilities first-hand. Lastly they had the opportunity to meet with the various representatives at their stands for in depth conversations about their specific options. All in all it was a wonderful opportunity and very insightful for all who attended. If you haven’t had the opportunity to attend on of our Open Houses don’t worry. On the 20th of May 2016, a handful of OTC students under the ISA (International School Awards) programme took the HIV/AIDS campaign to the Anglican Girls Grammar School, Surulere, Lagos. The 7 students, ably represented by Walid Adegunwa and Lewechi Nkata delivered an interesting and enlightening presentation, that took their highly attentive audience through the causes and prevention of the scourge. The interest in this life-impacting topic is evident through the various thought-provoking questions asked by the audience, who also had ample opportunity to interact informally with the visiting students. Though initially meant for the entire school, due to logistical problems, the team was only able to address the SS3 students, who we had envisaged would find the programme more beneficial. Thankfully that was exactly what played out.
